- PAY-DAY
-
- PAY-DAY is an easy, menu driven payroll program. Our main
- objective is to make the program simple to use! No special
- training is required to learn to compute paychecks in a matter of
- minutes! PAY-DAY is based on the IRS Circular E, Employer's Tax
- Guide. Before using PAY-DAY, you should obtain this circular.
- PAY-DAY includes input for declaring tips, which is useful for
- some businesses, including restaurants. Paychecks can be figured
- in any order, and at the end of the session, check totals and tax
- liability totals will be printed. This distributed version
- figures paychecks on a weekly basis, while the registered version
- will also figure on a biweekly, semimonthly, or monthly basis as
- well. This version gives you the option of printing out the
- computations for each employee, making it easy for you to write
- the checks out, while the registered version actually prints out
- the individual checks.
- This version handles up to 68 employees, and is distributed
- to familiarize you with the program. In its present form, it is
- limited to just figuring weekly paychecks, but you will be able
- to see just how easy it is to use, and hopefully you will decide
- to register and receive the full version. In addition to the
- 1987 tax tables update, the registered version stores more
- information on each employee, and prints end of the year tax
- forms. The registered version also supports automatic tax
- calculations for all 50 states. You will also receive a full
- USER MANUAL, plus free telephone support. PAY-DAY is not meant
- to be all things to all people, but it is intended for small
- businesses which do their own payroll, and do not have time to
- waste on hours of training.

- OPENING SCREEN
- The opening screen on this version contains a message about
- registering, and then it says, "Please hit [ENTER] to continue."
- If you have used PAY-DAY before, you will have a data file on the
- disk called "A-FILE", which contains your employee data. If you
- are using PAY-DAY for the first time, the program will be unable
- to find "A-FILE." It will take you to the "Add Employee" screen.
- You must have at least one employee for PAY-DAY to work. When
- you finish adding employees and/or finish computing checks, the
- information will be written to the disk. Thereafter, when you
- hit [ENTER] on the opening screen, you will be taken to the main
- menu. IMPORTANT!, when you add employees, you MUST NOT use the
- "[E] Exit without saving data" option from the MAIN MENU, or your
- work will be lost, and you will have to start from scratch again,
- adding the employees.
-
- ADDING EMPLOYEES
- In adding employees, everything is pretty self explanatory.
- You will be prompted for all information.
- NAME:
- Name of employee is entered. When the last employee has been
- entered, enter a "/" instead of the name. You will then be
- returned to the main menu.
- WAGE/SALARY: and
- PER HOUR OR WEEK (H or W):
- Wage/Salary is per hour or week. For example, you would
- enter "$ 3.50" for 'Wage/Salary', and "H" for 'Per Hour or Week
- (H or W)', if your employee makes $3.50 per hour. If your
- employee makes a weekly salary of $400 dollars, you would enter
- "400", and "W" respectively.
- TIPS:
- If your employee reports tips, enter "Y" for "Yes".
- MARITAL STATUS:
- Enter "M" if your employee is married, "S" if single.
- NUMBER OF EXEMPTIONS:
- Enter number of dependents.20% STATE TAX WITHHELD:
- State tax (in this version) is assumed to be 10% of the
- Federal tax. The option, "20% State tax withheld" allows that
- deduction to be 20% of the Federal tax if you respond with "Y",
- for "yes." NOTE: The registered version computes the correct tax
- for all 50 states.PAYS OWN TAXES:
- If your employee qualifies to pay his own taxes quarterly or
- when he files, use this option. Then only his social security is
- deducted. (Your half of the FICA is included in the final
- totals, however. More on this later.)
- ADDITIONAL DEDUCTIONS:
- There is a provision for two optional deductions (in this
- version). They are deducted when the paycheck is figured.
-
- *****************
- After you finish entering, you may go back and re enter
- everything for this employee, if you wish, by choosing [D] at
- the bottom of the screen. However, it is probably easier to
- change one or two items when you review the employee just prior
- to figuring his paycheck.

-
- MAIN MENU
-
- FIGURE PAYROLL:
- This will take you to the first employee, and you can begin
- in sequence to figure each check on pay day. (NOTE: If you are
- interrupted before you reach the end, note the last paycheck you
- have figured, save the data to disk, and copy the totals down.
- Later when you return, you can go directly from the "List of
- employees" to the the place where you left off, and continue. Be
- sure to add your previous totals to the present.)
-
- ADD MORE EMPLOYEES:
- Selecting this will allow you to add more employees.
-
- SAVE DATA TO DISK AND FINAL TOTAL:
- After you have figured the payroll, you will select this. It
- will save your data to the disk, and will display the totals for
- the checks. It will also enable you to print out all of the
- computations for each check. If you have a printer, you may want
- to do this, and then refer to the printout as you write the
- paychecks. The registered version will print out the checks for
- you, saving this step, as well as the time required to write the
- checks out by hand. The totals are useful, so you will know how
- much money to deposit into your payroll account and your tax
- account!
-
- EXIT WITHOUT SAVING DATA:
- This would be used only when you are making a "test run", or
- when you are learning the program. You will see the totals
- printed on the screen, and then the program will end.
-
- LIST OF EMPLOYEES:
- You may list the employees. If you have more than 34
- employees, you will be prompted for an "M" to see more. After 68
- have been displayed, an "M" will show the first 34 again. From
- this screen, you may go directly to any employee just by entering
- the number.
-
- FIGURING PAYCHECKS
-
- The first screen will display the data for each employee, and
- allow you to make any changes by hitting "C". You may page
- through the employees by hitting either "N" for "next" or "P" for
- "previous." "M" will take you back to the main menu. When you
- are ready to figure the paycheck, simply hit the "RETURN" key.
- If the employee is paid a weekly salary and doesn't report tips,
- then the check computations will be displayed immediately.
-
- If the employee is paid by the hour, then the number of hours
- worked is requested. Enter the number of hours worked.
-
- MORE THAN ONE JOB
-
- If the employee has worked more than one job, then enter an
- "M" for "more than one," instead of the number of hours.
- Then you will be asked for the number of jobs worked, the
- wages and number of hours worked for each.

-
- TIPS:
-
- If the employee declares tips, then the amount of tips should
- be entered. You will note on the computations, that the tax
- withholding is figured on the gross wages plus the tips, but the
- net amount of the paycheck is for the gross minus the deductions.
- (In other words, the employee has already received the rest from
- the tips.)
-
- If you have made a mistake, you may go back to the original
- screen for that employee and start again, by hitting a "C" after
- the paycheck computation. By pressing "ENTER", you will move on
- to the next employee.
-
- After the last employee, you will be brought back to the Main
- menu, where you will choose to "S" save the data to disk and then
- the next choice will be to "P" to print out the check
- computations or "E" end program and show the totals. Again, if
- you choose to print the computations, at the end of the
- printout, you will see the totals, and they will also be
- displayed on the screen. The program will then end.

- REMINDER
-
- PAY-DAY is based on the IRS Circular E. It is the
- responsibility of the Employer to insure that the proper
- deductions are made for the paycheck. PAY-DAY is only a tool.
- It would be wise to use PAY-DAY along with your old method at
- first to insure that it will meet your needs.
-
